We work markets that get real hail without a hundred roofing companies chasing every storm. One contractor per area — so each of these is either open or it isn’t.
Check Your MarketThe middle ground, on purpose.
The biggest storm markets look attractive until you work one. Dallas–Fort Worth, Houston, Oklahoma City, Denver, Wichita, Omaha — they get hammered, and every roofing company in a four-state radius shows up the next morning. Appointments get harder to set and worth less when they land.
So we don’t work those. We look for metros with recurring severe hail and a contractor count that hasn’t caught up to it yet. Tennessee has roughly a third the roofing businesses per capita that Colorado does, and its severe hail is up 280% in three years. Alabama is the only state in the region that requires a roofing license, which keeps out-of-state crews from setting up after a storm. Missouri and Iowa have roof-matching statutes that push carriers toward full replacement instead of patching.
That’s the middle ground. Enough storms to keep you busy, few enough competitors that you’re not the tenth call.
